ManUPstate is currently working with Furman University to host a “Coaching Boys Into Men” training for high school athletic coaches in August, 2015. Coaching Boys Into Men (www.coachescorner.org) is a Coaches Leadership Program that partners with athletic coaches to help young male athletes practice respect towards themselves and others. Athletic coaches play an extremely influential and unique role in the lives of young men, often serving as a mentor to the boys they coach. Because of these special relationships, coaches are poised to positively influence how young men think and behave both on, and off, the field. From speeches to the team, practice sessions, or simply casual conversation, coaches have many opportunities to impart their philosophies upon their athletes. Coaching Boys into Men (CBIM) equips coaches to talk with their athletes about respect for women and girls and that violence doesn’t equal strength. Through CBIM, athletes learn skills to avoid violence and abuse in their relationships.
We invite high school athletic leaders/directors to join us for lunch with Furman University’s Athletic Director, Gary Clark, and Furman’s head football coach, Bruce Fowler, on Thursday, April 23 on the Club Level (second floor) of the Pearce Horton Football Complex at Furman University (press box building in front of the football stadium) to learn a bit about Coaching Boys into Men and to hear our plans/vision for our training for high school athletic coaches in August. Please RSVP by contacting Julie Meredith by April 20 at email@example.com or 864.385.7179.
